Call for Peaceful Demonstration

August 2nd, 2010
We would like to first congratulate the peace loving individuals for taking a symbolic initiative to organize a peaceful demonstration on August 5th, 2010.
We, the Network of Ethiopians for Development and Peace (NEDAP), would like to express our deep appreciation for this bold stand and applaud the organizers for standing for such a noble cause. We wholeheartedly support you in promoting the interest of our people at a time when there are subversive forces that want to arrest the encouraging developments in Ethiopia.
We vehemently denounce the recent terrorist attack that was done against the Ugandan and Ethiopian people in Uganda. We stand firm with you in condemning the recent indiscriminate terrorist attack. Rest assured that we are on the side of our government and people and not for a moment lose sight of the saboteurs to the progress of our country. The tireless effort will not be thwarted and indeed a sustainable Ethiopia is emerging.
We also support the Ethiopian government’s efforts in pursuing a cooperative framework agreement on the equitable and sustainable usage of the Nile. We are proud of our government for being a champion in dealing fairly with all concerned parties and for going over and beyond to endorse an unbiased working plan. We encourage the Ethiopian government to continue on its plan of action to build dams and construct irrigation systems. It is unfathomable and impossible for any force to deter the will of the people.
We would like to again assure you that the immense effort to sabotage the democratic process will be dealt with vigor and unflinching commitment by individuals like you, NEDAP and other progressive forces in the Diaspora. Our people and government are playing a vital role to guarantee the success of building a democratic Ethiopia.
We would like to reiterate again that we will disseminate the information on the peaceful demonstration to all progressive forces. We stand with you in alignment to give voice to our people and to gain international support for the great work and development that has been and still is in progress in our country. The development process is irreversible and we believe Ethiopia will succeed in meeting its goals to bring the country to prosperity.
