    BREAKING NEWS ON SOMALI

Somali front signs peace treaty with Ethiopia

The United West Somali Liberation Front signed a peace treaty with the government of Ethiopia. In a peace treaty held today July 29, 2010 at the Ghion Hotel Addis Ababa, the front agreed to shun from its anti peace actions.

The leader of the front Sheik Ibrahim Hussein said he will work on the peace and security of the regions along with the government of Ethiopia.

The Minister of the Federal Affairs, Dr. Shiferaw T.Mariam, on his part said, the Ethiopian government has made a promise to all parties that even the resistance fighters will be given a chance to blend with the community if they change their destructive ways. According to him such acts will help rebuild peace and security in the region.

On the peace treaty, the resistance fighters from different regions as well as different government officials, including Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s advisor Abay Tsehaye were present.

United Western Somali Liberation Front has been fighting with the government ever since the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) took over from the Military Derg regime. The resistance has been an ally of the Al Itad moment and was consistently striding to split the Ethiopian Somalia region and form an independent Western Somalia region. At the peace process the front called on Ogaden National Freedom Movement to come to a similar peace agreement with the Ethiopian government.

    Press Release (NEDAP)

     July 23, 2010

    Press Release

It is public secret that in the last 20 years, the role of the Ethiopian Diaspora in the affairs of our country was mixed at best. The good news is the majority of Ethiopians in the Diaspora have been actively participating in the peace and development of their country. It is only few radical opposition groups in coalition with our adversaries that have been directly involved in damaging activities towards our country. Overall, the balance favors the supporters rather than the detractors.

Despite our large numbers, however, the supporters and well-wishers of our country have lacked coordination and organizational integration. We have not been able, up to this point, to organize a coalition of positive forces that could enable us to speak with one and effective voice. We have come to the realization that the present state of affairs would not take us forward fast enough to attain our long term objectives.  As a result, we are happy to announce the formation of an advocacy group- the Network of Ethiopians for Development and Peace (NEDAP).

Meles: Neo-liberal doctrine has phased out

    Neo-liberal doctrine has phased out

    Thursday, 22 July 2010

July 22, 2010 - Majority of Asian countries have managed to double their economic growth every ten years. Some economic analysts argue that those countries registered such a remarkable growth because they have been implementing the neo-liberal political and economic principles.

Contrary to this, Africa has been registering extra-ordinary development since it begun implementing developmental politics some ten years ago.

A conference deliberating on ways of ensuring sustained economic growth in Africa is is held in Madrid, Spain.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi who attended the conference said the neo-liberal ideology has failed to bring about the desired level of economic growth in Africa as the one witnessed in Asia.
